Jinitiator working on Windows Vista/7/8 [SOLVED] Part 1

We need ‘Jinitiator 1.3.1.17′ for Oracle Form & Report 10g Release 1 and
‘Jinitiator 1.3.1.22′ for Oracle Form & Report 10g Release 2
to use a core application. The applications in-house team havent managed to get it working with JRE, which is the replacement to Jinit. They insist that you must use Jinitiator 1.3.1.13 & windows XP! We also know that Jinit is no longer supported by Oracle & refuses to work with Windows Vista/7/8.

So how do you get around this ?

Install Jinitiator as normal, if your having problems actually getting it to install, just use the Windows Vista/7/8 ‘compatibility mode’ to get it to stay on your machine instead of it annoyingly uninstalling itself at the end of a failed install process.

Now

install Java JDK. 1.6 update 13 until 21. you can choose one of them java JDK 1.6 update version. After install java.

check the java jdk was installing in your computer. Go to start--> Run --> write cmd
and enter. write ‘java -version’. if no error you will get the information JDK was installed in your computer. Next Step, you must search jvm.dll in folder java like
this
C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_13\jre\bin\server and copy 'JVM.DLL' to folder jinitiator.

Replace the ‘jvm.dll’ in jinitiator directory (C:\Program Files (x86)\Oracle\JInitiator 1.3.1.13\bin\hotspot\)(64 bit OS) or this (C:\Program Files\Oracle\JInitiator 1.3.1.13\bin\hotspot\)(32 bit OS) with this file jvm.dll from folder java.

Restart IE* and try again, Windows 7 should reduce your colour scheme and your app should now work.

See post repaint blog post on how to fix the repaint screen issues, if they are happening to you.

*Note, I would never normally recommend Internet Explorer, it’s just that this process doesn’t work for me using Chrome or Firefox, my preferred browsers.
